A Scottish Whisky Tasting & Dinner: Therma-Chem Hosts Thai Delegation at The Glasshouse
Stravaig Spirits was delighted to curate a bespoke whisky tasting for renowned industry leaders Therma-Chem, welcoming their delegation of Thai guests to Edinburgh for a truly Scottish evening. The event highlighted not just the spirit of Scotland, but our commitment to unique, memorable experiences for international guests.
A Warm Welcome
Upon arrival at the Glasshouse Hotel’s rooftop Carlton Suite, guests were greeted by the stirring sound of Louise Marshall—Scotland’s National Piper—performing live on the rooftop. Her piping set a celebratory tone and added a touch of tradition, before she guided everyone into the suite for the evening’s festivities. Each guest enjoyed a welcome highball, crafted with Glenlaird 10 Year Old Scotch, offering a crisp and elegant introduction to Scottish hospitality.
Unveiling Rare and Old Whiskies
The heart of our evening was a one-hour whisky tasting, led by Stravaig Spirits’ own Ryan McCafferty. Ryan introduced four rare and old whiskies chosen specifically to surprise and delight even the most seasoned whisky connoisseurs—each expression revealing new stories and flavours and championing the extraordinary diversity of Scottish distilling. Lively discussion and tasting notes filled the room as guests learned and compared each dram.
During the tasting, guests savoured an exceptional selection of whiskies
Glenfiddich 23 Year Old 'Grand Cru', a rare Speyside malt matured in American and European oak before an elegant finish in French cuvée casks, offering layered flavours of apple blossom, vanilla oak, and pear sorbet.
Tri Carragh 30 Year Old, a rare single cask Scotch from the Braes of Glenlivet, noted for its toffee apple and spicy ginger notes.
GlenDronach 21 Year Old 'Parliament', a richly sherried malt bursting with plum, dark chocolate, and warm spice flavours.
Ardbeg 19 Year Old Traigh Bhan, a peated Islay whisky with tropical fruit and smoked butter notes, rounding out a diverse and memorable whisky journey.
Memorable Scottish Dining
Following the tasting, all guests enjoyed a three-course Scottish themed dinner prepared by the talented chef at The Glasshouse. The menu featured local produce and classic recipes to complement the evening.

Testimonial
Ron Semple, Managing Director of Therma-Chem, kindly shared about the event:
"We hired Ola and Ryan to host a private whisky tasting event for a group of clients visiting from Thailand in the Glasshouse in Edinburgh. From liaising with the venue, to selecting the whisky's and delivery on the day, they were both friendly, honest and efficient. Ryan was extremely knowledgeable about the different brands of whisky on offer and we were delighted to be able to try their own Tri Carragh brand. I would definitely recommend them to anyone organising whisky tasting events."
Celebrating Success
The night stood out as a true celebration of Scottish spirit—bringing together culture, cuisine, and whisky for a gathering that was as informative as it was enjoyable. Thanks to Louise Marshall, Ryan McCafferty, and the Glasshouse team for making the event a great success.
