We have appointed our very first whisky taster!

After launching our ‘Best Job In The World’ competition earlier this year, we’re excited to announce the winning candidate. The job role received a staggering 145 applications, of whom 98% said whisky was their favourite spirit¹.

Our new team member will receive six months of free whisky samples and potential food pairings in return for reviews of the products. These reviews and feedback will then determine our next bottle releases.

We asked those interested in our new job role to fill out an online application giving details about themselves and a reason why they would be able to provide valuable reviews.

Kevin Grant, a 32-year-old spirits enthusiast based in Stirling, took the top spot of applications and has been hired as our official whisky taster. Kevin has a huge passion for whisky and is regularly trying new bottles, and his favourite way to taste a cask is by ‘blind tasting’.

Kevin was delighted by his new position and explained why: “This is an exciting new challenge and one in which I’m really looking forward to being involved in, an up-and-coming company in Stravaig Spirits bringing whisky to the world through the eyes and nose of blind tasting which is a fantastic way and my favourite in trying new whisky.

“The quote I use as always is “let’s talk whisky” and now we get to do that in a fun and approachable way.”

In Kevin’s application, he discussed his passion for writing whisky reviews, ensuring that all reviews created are independent and honest. His history of reviewing whisky is essential for supporting us in choosing our next release of bottles.

Kevins' response was confident and friendly, and his passion for whisky shone through. We were interested to read about his interest in blind-tasting whisky, which shows us that he isn't influenced by preconceptions of the distillery name or the appearance of the whisky and is more focused on the characteristics of each sample.

We feel that he would be great at honestly reviewing our samples. We're sure he'll be a fantastic 'team' member and a great addition to help select our future Tri Carragh bottles.
